Freelancer Tax Calculator Pakistan

Work out the tax on money you earn from foreign clients, Upwork, Fiverr or other platforms. Enter your monthly income and currency, choose whether you are registered with PSEB, and see the tax and your take-home in rupees for the month and the year.

How to use the Freelancer Tax Calculator Pakistan

  1. Enter your monthly income in the currency you are paid in.
  2. Pick the currency — today’s rate is filled in for you.
  3. Choose your status: PSEB registered (0.25%) or not registered (1%).
  4. Add any platform or transfer fees as a percentage.
  5. Read your monthly and yearly tax and take-home.

Formula

Income in Rs = Foreign income × Exchange rate × (1 − Fees %) Tax = Income in Rs × Tax rate (0.25% or 1%) Take-home = Income in Rs − Tax

Example

A freelancer earns USD 1,500 a month at Rs 280 per dollar: Rs 4,20,000. Registered with PSEB, the tax is Rs 1,050 a month. Without PSEB registration at 1%, it is Rs 4,200 a month — Rs 37,800 more each year.

Why registration saves money

The gap between 0.25% and 1% looks small, but it is four times as much tax. On Rs 50 lakh of yearly income, that is Rs 12,500 against Rs 50,000. PSEB registration usually pays for itself in the first few months.

Receive money the right way

  • Use a bank account in Pakistan and receive funds through banking channels
  • Keep invoices and platform statements for every payment
  • Use your NTN and keep your FBR profile up to date
  • Avoid receiving business income through friends or hawala — it loses the low rate and can create tax problems

Payoneer, Wise and platforms

Platform fees and currency conversion costs reduce what reaches your account. Put them in the fees box to see your true take-home. Compare the final rupee amount between providers rather than the headline exchange rate.

Frequently asked questions

How do I register with PSEB as a freelancer?

Freelancers register online on the Pakistan Software Export Board portal with their CNIC, NTN and proof of IT or IT-enabled work, and pay the registration fee. Check the PSEB website for the current process.

Does the bank deduct the tax automatically?

Yes. When foreign payments arrive in your bank account through banking channels, the bank usually deducts the tax. Give your bank your PSEB certificate to get the lower rate.

Do I still need to file a tax return?

Yes. Filing keeps you on the active taxpayer list, which is needed for the reduced rate and lowers tax on property, cars and bank profit.
