Formula
Example
1,250,750.50 becomes “Rupees Twelve Lakh Fifty Thousand Seven Hundred Fifty and Fifty Paisa Only”.
Writing a cheque correctly
- Write the amount in words starting close to the left edge
- End with “only”, e.g. “Rupees One Lakh Twenty Thousand Only”
- Make sure the words and figures match exactly
- Draw a line after the words so nothing can be added
Lakh and crore vs million
1 lakh = 100,000 and 1 crore = 10,000,000. In Pakistan, cheques, property papers and salaries usually use lakh and crore, while international documents use million and billion. 10 lakh equals 1 million.
Commas in Pakistani numbers
The local style groups digits as 1,00,00,000 for one crore. International style writes 10,000,000. Both mean the same amount.
