Formula
Example
For a Rs 15 million house in Lahore with both parties filers: the buyer pays Rs 187,500 (236K) + Rs 150,000 stamp duty, and the seller pays Rs 412,500 (236C).
Taxes on a property deal
- Buyer: advance tax under section 236K, plus stamp duty and registration fees
- Seller: advance tax under section 236C
- Capital gains tax on the seller when filing the return, depending on the holding period
- Society transfer fees in private housing schemes
Which value is used
Tax is usually charged on the FBR valuation or DC rate of the property, or the declared price if higher. Check the latest FBR valuation table for your area before you budget.
Filer or non-filer
Non-filers pay much higher rates on property transfers. Becoming a filer before buying or selling can save lakhs on a single deal.
